In recent years, a new form of exercise combining aquatic environments with indoor cycling training—Aqua Cycling—has been quietly emerging in Taiwan, shifting the concept of “cycling” from land-based spaces into an underwater setting.
Unlike traditional indoor cycling, which emphasizes speed and explosive power, aqua cycling leverages the unique physical properties of water, which simultaneously supports and resists bodily movement. The buoyancy of water reduces the load placed on the joints, helping to protect the knees and promote circulation. At the same time, the resistance provided by water ensures that each pedal stroke generates a more consistent and sustained muscular load, thereby improving cardiovascular endurance and enhancing calorie-burning efficiency.

Beyond its physical training benefits, aqua cycling also offers notable effects on mental and emotional regulation. The enveloping sensation of water is often described by participants as calming and stabilizing, making the activity not only suitable for those focusing on weight loss and cardiovascular training, but also increasingly relevant as an option for rehabilitation and stress relief.
